about us

Rock hunting, for me, started as a family activity that we could do together and has progressed into something that I want to share with others! Who doesn't love those rocks that glow a brilliant orange? Please take a moment to read about why GeoLite was started and how we ended up with amazing flashlights that we want to share with everyone!

The Full Story

Hunting for Fluorescent Sodalite rocks is a major hobby of mine--I seriously enjoy it and can't imagine not doing it. Most people associate searching for these rocks with Michigan and Lake Superior, but did you know you ARE able to find them in Wisconsin everywhere along Wisconsin's Lake Michigan shoreline, and many other places that the glacier has touched? I've found so many on our Wisconsin shores! When I started out I used a $10 UV LED light I bought online that had great reviews. While I found a few rocks, it wasn't many and it was quite exhausting because, essentially, I had to be on my hands and knees to look for them. The light was so weak I couldn't see the rocks unless I was super close.

I wanted a better light to better my odds, and to make things considerably easier (so I didn't have to kneel on rocks). So, I did some more research and bought another 365nm UV LED light online for around $40, also with awesome reviews. Sadly, it underperformed by a lot. It wasn't going to be enough, I still needed to be on my hands and knees to see the rocks. Again, back to researching I went and I found one, finally, or so I thought... I bought what I thought was going to be the one--a 365nm UV LED light that I found online that had outstanding reviews, for around $100. It came with the flashlight, a junk charger and junk batteries, but immediately I was able to find an insane amount of Fluorescent Sodalite rocks! The only problem was that my light got so hot after one use that it burned out a portion of the LED, leaving a huge dead spot (aka a halo) right in the center of the light beam. Nothing makes you more annoyed than spending a bunch of money on something that junks out right away.

I then decided that there should be a great light available on the market that was easily accessible, without the massive wait time and uncertainty that you'd ever get one. That's when I discovered the most incredible UV LED lights that I sell on this site. All of our UV lights, besides the GeoLite 255-4 and GeoLite 310-4, stay cool because they have proper drivers, LEDs, and body design. They are also super bright, partly because of the high-quality batteries we use and provide (I know this because I've tested multiple brands and variants of batteries, and chose the ones that are the safest, had the best output, and lasted the longest).

I've created a small business to share and sell these lights to whoever may be interested. Please check them out if you're a rock hunter or are interested in fluorescent rock hunting. You can also click our history tab to learn a little bit about these special rocks and why they're here along the Great Lakes, and other land carved out by glaciers!

Rock hunting is a great family activity! You get to enjoy the great outdoors, see beautiful scenery, and get some fresh air. Plus, it gets everyone talking and wanting to share their findings with one another. What better rocks to look for than ones that glow a brilliant orange under our lights! But that's not where the findings end, I'll let you figure out all of the other amazing things you can find with it!

Thank you for taking a minute to read this, and happy hunting!
